1. Environment installation

Objective: to manually install Sentinel LDK Run-time, the environment for license keys operation.

Usually the Sentinel LDK Run-time environment is automatically installed along with the protected product and a demo key for it. But in case you need to install the environment manually:

If you don’t launch the executable from the command line, but with the “double-click” call, the window with parameters description will open:

If the environment is successfully installed, the Sentinel Admin Control Center web-application will be available in your browser when entering http://127.0.0.1:1947/.

You may also find the detailed description of Sentinel LDK Run-time environment and working with Sentinel Admin Control Center in Working with VIT licenses. Detailed Guide. Also, Sentinel Admin Control Center contains the Help section with its functionality description.

2. Demo license installation

Objective: to manually install the demo key for a specific product.

Along with each VIT software product, the following software is automatically installed:

  • the Sentinel LDK Run-time environment, which is necessary for license key operation;

  • the demo license, which allows to test the product functionality (usually, the demo period lasts 30 days).

In case you need to manually install the demo license, VIT will provide you with the installer suitable to product you want to test. With its help, you will at once get a (software) demo license and Sentinel LDK Run-time on your computer. The launch procedure is similar to what is described in 1. Environment installation.

The demo license (“Unlocked license” in terms of Gemalto) is a SL (software) AdminMode key, which is automatically activated when the protected product is launched. This key differs from the full-featured license in the way that it does not get locked to computer hardware and can be installed on any number of servers. When the demo period expires, the demo period can be requested for prolongation or activation. The demo license can not be deleted (see 5. License deletion).

You may find the description of license keys used by VIT in Working with VIT licenses. Detailed Guide.

3. New license installation

Objective: to manually install the new full-featured (not demo) software or hardware key.

Pre-conditions:

  • you do not have any license keys, whether software or hardware ones (including the demo keys), on your local machine;

  • you already have Sentinel LDK Run-time installed on your local machine (see 1. Environment installation, in case you need to install it manually).

Hardware license (HL) key

Connect the USB dongle (hardware key) to the machine where the protected product is/is to be installed. If the Sentinel LDK Run-time environment was previously successfully installed, the key will be automatically recognized and the protected product will be ready for usage.

If you open the Sentinel Admin Control Center web-application (http://127.0.0.1:1947/), in case the license key was recognized, you will see information about it on the Sentinel Keys tab.

Software license (SL) key

To install a new software key for the VIT product:

  1. Download the Sentinel RUS (Remote Update System) utility: http://downloads.vit.ua/redistr/HASP/7.4/EOAWT/RUS_EOAWT.exe .

  2. Launch the utility.

  3. Select the Installation of new protection key option. Click the Collect Information button.

This action will cause the creation of the unique fingerprint of your machine hardware. As the output, you will get a file with c2v (customer-to-vendor) extension. Save the file on your machine.

  1. Send the generated c2v-file to your manager. In return, the manager will send you the corresponding v2c-file (vendor-to-customer).

The received file will contain the licensing information which can be used only on your machine.

  1. Launch the RUS utility again. Go to the Apply license file tab. Upload the received v2c-file.

This action will apply the unique licensing information on your server.

  1. Open the Sentinel Admin Control Center web-application (http://127.0.0.1:1947/). On the Sentinel Keys tab, the information about the newly installed software key will be printed.

To find more on capabilities of Sentinel Admin Control Center, please refer to Working with VIT licenses. Detailed Guide. Also, the web-application has the Help section.

4. License activation & update

Objective: to activate the demo license, thus upgrade it to the full-featured license, or to update the full-featured license.

License activation is a set of actions which turn your demo license into a full-featured license. The activation allows you to fully utilize the product features you have purchased.

License update is a set of actions which modify the structure of your full-featured license. For example, you can add a new (or exclude the unused) functionality unit or product, as well as extend the license usage period.

The activation/update procedure is similar for both software and hardware keys. The steps of the procedure are similar to steps of new license installation (see 3. New license installation), but differs in two aspects:

  • on the step 2, for license key activation/update, select the Update of existing protection key option instead of the Installation of new protection key option;

  • if you have more than one license key installed on your local machine, the Select HASP key window will appear after you click the Collect Information button:

update- (4).png

In this window, you will have to select a key which needs to be activated or updated. If you have concerns about which license key to choose, use the Sentinel Admin Control Center to know exactly the features/structure of each available key.

5. License deletion

Software license (HL) key

Peculiarities of deletion of software licenses that are used by VIT:

Keys

Description

Deletion

SL-Legacy or SL-Legacy Provisional

Created via Sentinel SDK 5.x or even older versions. Such keys are not provided by VIT anymore.

Is possible only by low-level formatting of the disk. Also, if you extend the volume of your logical disk, there will be a risk of losing your SL-Legacy Provisional key.

SL-AdminMode (including the Unlocked licenses, i.e. the demo licenses)

Created via Sentinel LDK 6.x or later versions. Can be installed as certificate files into a specific directory only if Sentinel LDK Run-time is installed. Also this environment must be running when you generate a c2v file with the fingerprint of your machine hardware (that fingerprint is needed for full-featured license key installation and operation). The licensing information (feature counters, see Working with VIT licenses. Detailed Guid) are located in secured storage on your computer.

Is possible by deletion of certificate file from your computer. However, only the key will be deleted, while all the license counters tracking information on restrictions will stay in secured storage on your computer. If you return the certificate file back to the directory, the key will be fully restored, and its counters will keep on tracking information from the point where they stopped due to key deletion (time restrictions will keep on tracked and counted, even if the key is absent).

To delete the SL-AdminMode key, delete the corresponding *HASP_key_id*_provisional.v2c file from the directory: C:\Program Files\Common Files\SafeNet Sentinel\Sentinel LDK\installed\*Vendor_id*.

For the changes to be applied, restart the Sentinel LDK License Manager service or your computer. If you don’t do that, the changes will not be applied at once, but in 5-10 minutes.

Hardware license (HL) key

As a licensing information storage, the hardware key can be formatted.
